Infinity Air Heating & Cooling Wants To Keep You Safe For The Halloween Season.
Halloween is this weekend and although you probably already hung outside festive and spooky decorations outside your home, you may want to move them now because unfortunately some people try to decorate their HVAC unit as part of their outdoor halloween decor and this is a bad idea.
If you are not careful it can come as a shock to your wallet and in addition, decorating for the Halloween season shouldn’t mean compromising your HVAC safety.
Therefore it is important to keep you and your unit safe.
Here are 3 HVAC Tips to ensure that you don’t harm your HVAC unit.
#1: Don’t Decorate The Outside Unit
It’s fun to decorate for halloween so why not dress up that big box sitting outside your home? It is very tempting to put a costume on top of it or around it. Hanging fake spider webs on the outdoor HVAC unit is a popular thing to do.
This needs to be avoided at all costs because your outdoor unit needs unobstructed airflow in and out of the system for it to work properly. If the airflow is decreased it will result in higher utility bills as your system’s performance diminishes. You will need one of our professional residential hvac technicians to come take a look and access the situation.
If left there long enough, the decor can cause damage to your unit and nobody wants costly repairs before the holidays.
There should never be any debris or items on or around the outdoor unit at all times.
#2: Keep Decorations At A Distance
It is important to keep decorations at a minimum of 5 feet or more away from the outdoor HVAC unit.
It is easy for small decorations or lights to fall off and blow away. They could easily get caught in the fan and inside the unit and cause the unit to malfunction all together.
Here is a small list of items to keep at a distance:
- Hot air inflatables
- Outdoor lights
- Coffin boxes
- Metal objects
If you do not have 5 feet of space around your unit, find another location to display and set up your decorations.
#3. Use A Different Hiding Place
I am sure at some point in your life you have gone trick or treating or to a halloween party and have been chased by a masked person with a chainsaw. This is an old time favorite that you can be sure will happen Halloween evening.
What you do not want to do is choose your HVAC unit to hide behind. Hiding behind the unit with a metal object in the dark is a bad idea. You could accidentally not only harm the unit but yourself as well. Even if it not a real chain saw or real ax. Kids screaming and running near your HVAC unit is just plain dangerous.
